The earth’s population is beautifully diverse. There are people of all different shapes and sizes, who also have very different tastes. The fashion world has adapted itself to target consumers of all sizes and not just slimmer individuals. This accounts for the number of clothing categories / types outlined below.

T-Shirts and other simple apparel

When t-shirts first came into existence they were worn as basic underwear. However, t-shirts are, of course, now one of the most common outerwear garments, and have evolved to include the different fits and sizing outlined below.

Regular Fit- These shirts are in between a slim and relaxed fit, and is the most popular fit of shirt.

Relaxed Fit- These shirts are meant to hang loosely from the body, and compliment any body type.

Unisex- Unisex sizes may be worn by both men and women. Unisex sizes run larger, and have a straight fit.

Ladies- Ladies sizes are made specifically for women as they have a smaller fit than unisex, and accentuate women’s curves.

Juniors- Juniors sizes are meant for petite women, who are short, have very slender figures, and small bust sizes.

The Different Types of Dresses

Women wear dresses throughout every season for every occasion. Below is a breakdown of the different dress types.

Cocktail / Party Dresses namesake come from the attire expected at a cocktail party, or other fancy events. These dresses first became popular during the second world war when women began working, and needed proper attire to attend work dinners, and other evening events. Cocktail dresses are elegant, knee length, and typically slim fitted, though some flare out at the bottom.

Empire Waist Dresses have been around for centuries. These dresses are fitted throughout the breast area, and very loose and free flowing below. These dresses compliment any body type and are good options for those who want to appear taller.

Gowns are what come to mind when one thinks of the dresses Disney princesses wear. Gowns are worn to exceptionally formal events like ballrooms, dances, galas, and weddings. Gowns are floor length, gathered or fitted at the top, and open at the bottom. Some gowns have trains that drag behind them. Most often, they are made of silk and styled with high heels.

HIgh-Low Dresses may be described exactly as their name suggests they appear. These dresses are simply short in the front and long in the back.

Pencil Dresses and Skirts are high waisted, tight fitting, and knee length.

Maxi Dresses defining characteristic is their length. Maxi dresses are floor length and appear as informal gowns, or even long sundresses.

Mermaid Dresses are dresses that resemble a mermaid’s appearance. They are figure hugging from the top of the dress to the knees, and then dramatically flare out like a mermaid’s fin.

Sheath Dresses are conservative dresses that women typically wear to work. More often than not, they are plain in both color and features. Sheath dresses feature high neck lines and long hems.

Sundresses are worn during the spring and summer when the weather is warm and the sun is shining. Sundresses are loose fitting, usually light colored, made of breezy fabric, and sleeveless. They look best when paired with sandals, wedges, and other open toed shoes.

Sweater Dresses are most often worn during the fall and winter seasons, and resemble elongated sweaters These dresses are most often made out of thick material like cotton, wool, fleece, and fur. These dresses look best when fashioned with thigh high boots, or leggings and booties.
